Floxin: Comprehensive Evidence-Based Product Monograph

Product Description Floxin (generic name: ofloxacin) is a synthetic broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent available in multiple formulations including oral tablets (200mg, 400mg), ophthalmic solution (0.3%), and otic solution (0.3%). Developed initially by Daiichi Sankyo and approved by the FDA in 1990, this second-generation fluoroquinolone has maintained clinical relevance despite newer agents entering the market. The drug exerts bactericidal activity through inhibition of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, effectively disrupting bacterial DNA replication and transcription processes.
