Cozaar (Losartan Potassium): Comprehensive Clinical Monograph for Hypertension and Nephropathy Management

Introduction: What is Cozaar? Its Role in Modern Cardiovascular Medicine Cozaar, known generically as losartan potassium, represents a cornerstone in the management of hypertension and diabetic nephropathy. As the first angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) approved by the FDA in 1995, Cozaar fundamentally changed how we approach renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) blockade. Unlike its predecessors the ACE inhibitors, Cozaar works at the receptor level rather than through enzyme inhibition, offering a distinct pharmacological profile with comparable efficacy and often better tolerability.
